Holmes Brings Home A Top Five in The Toyota Showdown Linda Hamilton/BRE Enterprises - Oct 25, 2006
Eric Holmes is the only driver ever to run both divisions in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. This was Holmes' third invitation to the prestigious Showdown,
which he won in the Elite Division in 2004.
Eric had ill handling cars during the qualifing races on Friday night. He finished 10th in his qualifying race in the Southwest Elite Divsion and 4th in the Grand National West Division.
The crew worked on both cars til late Friday night and early Saturday morning. There was no practice on Saturday to see how the cars would handle for the race, after the changes were made.
Eric's starting position in the Southwest Elite Divsion, was 20th. By lap 56 he had worked his way up to 6th. That is where he stayed til lap 97 when he would take 5th and by lap 120 he was in fourth where he finished.
His starting position in the Grand National West Division, was 7th. By lap 7 he was already in 3rd and by lap 49 in 2nd place. Eric stayed in the top five most of the race. At the break, on lap 100, he radioed in to the crew that his trasmission was stuck in fourth gear. They tried to fix it but could not.
On lap 103 Eric took the lead. He had a hard time keeping the lead when the yellows came out because of not having a second gear. On lap 149 he was in second and on the fourth and final turn he was going for the win, he made contact with another car and spun into the wall. He ended up finishing 19th.
